EDDM Might Work For You

No, not EMDR. EMDR stand for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.

Wait a minute! Now that I think about it maybe you need EMDR more than EDDM! (And Jennifer, my wife, is licensed in the therapy, so maybe a side hustle?)

Anyway, EDDM stands for Every Door Direct Mail. You probably knew that or at least have heard of it. But for those contemplating mail campaigns (postcards or more) EDDM can be a big help. It used to be pretty hard and somewhat expensive to find the lists of affluent people in your ‘hood.

You could, of course, mail to specific zip codes, but the contact names might be out of date, and within a zip code (many of which are vast) you’re going to waste anywhere from 20% to 50% of your mail pieces on commercial businesses (assuming you’re aiming for homeowners) and those tiny homes on the “…other side of the tracks.”

So, who has the best and most updated list? Why the postal service, of course. And for a few years now, they’ve been offering to deliver to “every door” in specific areas which can be very narrowly targeted.

The largest direct mail houses have picked up on this and now offer to combine their design and print capability with EDDM to reach just the homeowners you want in a very cost effective manner.
